Atrium Kitchen Wants to Taco About It!

Did you know Atrium Kitchen at Pike Place Market does taco tours? I had a chance to take the tour a few weeks ago and it was super fun! I work a short distance from Pike and I learn new things about the Market all the time. The Market is vibrant and ever changing, yet familiar at the same time. The tour began at the Atrium Kitchen led by Chef Traci Calderon.

Getting ready to eat tacos!

I’m an experienced eater and let me tell you, I was full after this tour! We had a total of 6 tacos and it was a feast! We started the tour at the Atrium Kitchen. With each taco, we got to hear about the business that made it before digging in!

La Vaca’s Chicken Mole Taco

The chicken mole taco from La Vaca Mexican Food was huge! It was flavorful and full of meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pico de gallo, and salsa. After this taco, I wasn’t sure how I was going to make it through the tour.

Mariscos Mexico’s Fish Taco

I’m a huge fan of mango salsa so I was super excited to try the fish taco from Mariscos Mexico. This one had mahi mahi, jicama, mango salsa, and chile cream sauce. Wow! The mahi was tasty and the jicama added a lovely crunch. The sweetness of the mango salsa was tempered by a healthy amount of spice. I’m in love with this taco!

Mexican Grocery’s Pinto Bean Tacos
Matt is getting it done!

Mexican Grocery served up pinto bean tacos. It was very well done. The pinto beans were the right texture (not too soft or too hard) and all the flavors melded together.

Jack’s Fish Spot has a Prawn Taco

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve walked by Jack’s Fish Spot and I’ve never eaten there! They served us a prawn taco that was delicious! I was doing a video for Instagram and I was speechless. When I bit into what appeared to be a simple taco, I was surprised by the complexity of it. Honestly, I’m going to go back to try it again to sort it out. The prawns were fried to a crisp and seasoned well. The textures were balanced and made for a perfect bite. Loved it!

Al Pastor Taco from Los Agaves

Los Agaves has always been one of my favorites. Years ago, I would visit them at Fremont Sunday Market. Since then, I’ve started visiting them at Pike. Their al pastor tacos is still one of my favorites. There’s something to be said for solid, consistently good meat. This taco has been perfect every time I’ve had it!

Sweet Taco from Shug’s Soda Fountain

Whew! That’s five tacos down! We were in for a treat at Shug’s Soda Fountain! Shug’s developed a sweet taco for the tour. Even though I was full, I had to try it! The picture doesn’t begin to describe what’s going on here. It’s a cinnamon waffle cone, Lopez Island Creamery ice cream, mango tajin sauce, caramel, and whipped cream. Wow! They’re gonna have to put this on the menu!
