Opening Day 2016

On June 11th, 2016, Shoreline Farmers Market opened for its 5th season.  I stopped by to grab some produce and of course, sample the food trucks and street food.

Mochi Beignets

My first stop was Seoul Kitchen, a truck that I’ve been missing for awhile.  Since it was the brunching hour, I decided to go small with one of my favorite dishes, mochi beignets ($4).  I had a big day of eating planned so I had to pace myself.  These delectable bites are fried and rolled in powdered sugar.  The dish is perfect for sharing because they are a bit filling but if you haven’t tried them, you should.

Fried Tofu, Popcorn Chicken, and Rice

My next stop was newcomer to the Market, Han’s Chicken Rice.  For $7, you get lovely, fragrant rice with poached chicken, or popcorn chicken, or fried tofu, or a combination of two proteins.  I decided to go non-traditional with the popcorn chicken and fried tofu.  The combination was pretty good – enough to immediately convince me to come back soon.  I loved the size of the tofu, the flavor and the texture.  Mix that with the variety of sauces and the rice = winner!  The popcorn was flavored well and definitely had more assertive flavors compared to the tofu.  Overall, it was a good dish.

The Market offers live entertainment, cooking demos, games, and places for little ones to play.  There are also tables and chairs set up so you can stay awhile.  The community feel is definitely there and it’s not uncommon for me to run into folks I haven’t seen in awhile.

Time was running short and I had another event to get to.  On my way out, I grabbed some lovely Rainier Cherries from Martin Family Orchards, one of my go to spots for cherries.  I also grabbed a loaf of gruyere cheese bread from Snohomish Bakery because I couldn’t resist.  Rustica dough with gruyere, mozzarella, and provolone.  It was (and is) amazing!  Cheesy goodness to die for!

I love Shoreline Farmers Market because it’s just busy enough to feel exciting but not so busy that I want to avoid it.  If you have a chance stop by and have a look.  The Market runs from 10AM to 3PM on Saturdays at Aurora Square (15300 Westminster Way N) through early October.

  1. […] Shoreline Farmers Market opened their season last weekend with some returning favorites and new vendors. The Market has been growing over the years and seems to be comfortable in the newer location at Aurora Square, in the Sears upper parking lot near Central Market. I tend to visit since it’s near my home and easy to run in and out to grab a few things. Here are four things you have to try! […]
